During my contract with the Air Force Culture and Language Center (AFCLC), I had the opportunity to contribute to the planning and development of materials for AFCLC’s annual Air University Language, Regional Expertise, & Culture (AU LREC) Symposium. At the 2023 event, I took on the role of videographer capturing both B-roll and interview footage. We used that video footage along with still images captured by my colleague Ms. Lori M. Quiller and the logo created by my colleague Ms. Janice Crowder to launch a social media campaign for the 2024 AU LREC Symposium. The result was a dramatic increase in attendance to the Symposium, from 350 attendees in 2023 to 470 attendees in 2024.
In addition, we developed an app component with an interactive schedule for the 2024 AU LREC Symposium, and I served as the lead UX/UI designer for this part of the project.
Promotional Videos and Social Media Campaign
To create the promotional video for the 2024 AU LREC Symposium, I reviewed the video interviews and survey responses from the 2023 event and crafted a script.I pulled elements from the logo to design the graphics, maintaining the Symposium’s branding throughout. I developed the storyboards for the video and began animating, while Ms. Janice Crowder did the logo animation. Below are the sketches from the storyboard and the final promotional video.
In addition to the main video, we repurposed the interview footage to create social media shorts, further promoting the event. Here are some examples.
As part of the 2024 AU LREC Symposium, I also worked on a section of AFCLC’s mobile app, Culture Guide, to feature the Symposium’s schedule, locations, and speaker details. I designed a 508-compliant color scheme that aligned with the event’s branding, incorporating both light and dark mode.
