Composition Textbook Cover

Concepts

I was approached by the Office of Digital Learning at Auburn University at Montgomery to design a cover for their e-textbook, Exploring Ourselves and Our World. After a meeting with the Digital Learning team, I came up with three separate concepts for their consideration. (The three images below are shown as rough drafts for proof of concept, not final products.)

The first is based off of a rotary telephone, with the QWERTY keyboard imposed instead of numbers. This concept explores our connection with the world through our connection with our past, showing that humans have always found means of composition and communication. The second is a playful take using emojis, a conversation tool that has become ubiquitous. The third is the most literal interpretation, using a blank page from a composition book formed into a representation of the world.

Final

The Digital Learning team chose concept 1, with the telephone. For the final product, I correctly photoshopped the background to remove the lines from the rough draft. The image was made to the specified resolution and size and delivered to the Digital Learning Team. It is currently in use for this digital textbook.
